Obituary: Gary Harp

Gary Harp of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born January 31, 1946, in Strawberry, Arkansas, the son of Baudie and Ruth L. (Roberts) Harp.

Mr. Harp was a graduate of Crowley’s Ridge Academy and later pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration from Arkansas State University. On November 23, 1967, he married Rosetta Beary and together they raised two children, enjoying 57 years of marriage.

After serving 35 years in customer service and operations, he retired from Norandal. Mr. Harp was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at deer camp. He also collected Massey-Harris Tractors and enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and college basketball games.

Mr. Harp and his wife Rosetta enjoyed vacationing in Branson with their friends. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior Harp, Edward Harp, and Jerry Harp; and his parents.

Mr. Harp is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosetta (Beary) Harp of the home; one son, Keith Harp and wife, Melodie of Jonesboro; one daughter, Melissa Harp of Newport; five grandchildren, Paige Caraway of Clarksville, Tennessee, Kayla Harp of Jonesboro, Craig Harp of Fayetteville, Lexi Harp of Newport, and Will Alan Harp of Jonesboro; one great-granddaughter, Zoey Caraway; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Jimmy and Merline Phillips; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services are at noon on Friday, April 12, at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery, in Walnut Ridge, with Mr. Bill Willard officiating.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Craig Harp, Will Alan Harp, Jimmy Harp, Jeff Harp, Donnie Taylor, and Jimmy Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be John Harp, Robert Harp, and Jason Harp.
