Obituary: Hershel Kagen

Hershel Kagen, 63, of Tuckerman passed from this life on April 25, 2024.  He was born September 10, 1960, to Lloyd Delton and Mattie Lee (Everett) Kagen.

Hershel’s passion for sports, particularly the Cardinals, illuminated his life. He found immense joy in watching his children, then his grandchildren participate in sports. As a dedicated member of the Tuckerman First Free Will Baptist Church, he served as a Sunday School teacher and embraced his role as a Gideon. Additionally, his commitment to community extended through his work with the Woodmen of the World.  Hershel’s legacy is one of faith, service, and unwavering support for his family, leaving behind a cherished memory of his love for sports and his profound impact on those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Trinity Blaire Kagen.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kagen, of the home; his sons, Chase Kagen (Brooke) of Weiner and Brody Kagen (Paige) of Tuckerman; his daughters, Hannah Kagen Cantrell (Patrick) of Jonesboro, Jennifer Averitt (Jared) of North Little Rock, and Whitney Kilgore (Brent) of Farmington; his brother, Clyde Parson (Lynda) of Bristow, Oklahoma; his sister, Marie Adcox (Darrell) of Pennington; thirteen grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Steven Bell, Brody Kagen, Patrick Cantrell, Chase Kagen, Eddie Smith, Harrison Smith, Jared Averitt, and Logan Bray.  Honorary pallbearers are the First Free Will Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.

Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Tuckerman First Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Jason Sullivan officiating.  Interment will be at Gracelawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel. Family would like to request that memorials be made to The Gideon International or the Arkansas Hospice Care. Both organizations meant a lot to Mr. Kagen.
