Louis Martin Smith, better known as “Martin” or “Popsie,” of Mountain View, Arkansas, passed away on April 24, 2024. Martin succumbed to a heart attack after being airlifted to White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas.

Martin was born on January 17, 1937, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Charles Parsons Smith Sr. and Gertrude Adams Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Barbara Ann Smith, and a brother Charles Smith Jr.

Martin graduated from Natchez High School and attended college. He joined the Army National Guard and later the Air National Guard. He was a retired Piping Draftsman. After retirement, his hobbies included tinkering with anything with a motor, traveling, yard work, his many pipes, and his favorite, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martin loved people and never met a stranger.

Martin is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sharon. Together they shared 5 children: son, Louis Martin Smith Jr., and wife Heidi of Colorado; daughter Melanie Null and husband Marvin of Texas; son James David Barron and wife Robbie of Louisiana; daughter Sandra Akin and husband JJ of Arkansas; son Joseph Barron and wife Shannon of Arkansas. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Barbara Ann Cass, Christopher Null, Jeffrey Null, Daniel, Brandon, and Kasey Barron, Jessica Alcantar, Kayla Long, Dakota Gray, Jessica Lewter, Jennifer Roberds, Kinley Eyerman, Cody Barron, and Ryan Barron, as well as 17 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Martin’s body has been donated to science, and upon completion of the endeavors, will be cremated. A small remembrance will be planned at a later date.
