Bill D. James, 82, of Alexander, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024. He was born on August 7th, 1941, in Cave City, Arkansas to Silas and Virginia James. Bill dedicated over five decades working as a barber alongside his beloved wife Sue. Their thriving partnership was a testament to the strength of their enduring love and respect for one another.

Bill’s faith played a significant role in his life, he served as a deacon and music director at First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabelvale. His love for music was evident as he enjoyed singing songs like “I’ll Fly Away” and “I Am Resolved.” Bill found solace in gardening, and nurturing plants and flowers, and he enjoyed bird and deer hunting with his sons.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Archie James; his sister Freda Butler; and his grandson Eli Staton.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sue Turner James; his children, Steve (Becky) James, Mitch (Tami) James, and Michelle Connell (Walt); his grandchildren, Abby Williams (Brenon), Luke Staton, Anna Connell, Claire Connell, Reagan Cody (Canyon), Jordan Staton (Brent), Charity Avery (Jeremy), Bethany Martin, Beka Gassman (Adam), Hannah Eddington (Sam), and Ryan James (Taylor); great-grandchildren, Palmer Williams, Cruze Cody, Creed Cody, Jagger Staton, Weston Avery, Scarlett Avery, Hannah Avery, Hayley Avery, Ellie Gassman, Rose Gassman, Ian Gassman, Ruby Gassman, Malachi Miller, Mac Eddington, and Lily James; sisters, Pearlean Mohlke and Treva Imes; and other extended family and friends.

Bill will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones. Though he has departed from this world, the memory of Bill will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.

A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM on Monday, May 13th with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 am at First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabelvale, 10300 Mabelvale West Rd, Mabelvale, AR. 72103. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Bill’s family will be forever grateful for the excellent care he received from the doctors and nurses at UAMS, the hospice team and the love and support from brothers and sisters. We are so blessed to have had the expertise in the medical field from his grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabelvale. Arrangements are made by Smith Little Rock Funeral Home.
