Symphonic Winds will perform first, beginning with Alfred Reed’s “A Festival Prelude.”  Next they will play “Old Churches” by Michael Colgrass, “Rukus” by Randall Standridge, and “Prelude, Siciliano, and Rondo” arranged by John Paynter.  They will close their portion of the evening with “Go Galop” by Henry Filmore

The Symphonic Winds are under the direction of Dr. Sarah Labovitz, associate director of bands and coordinator of instrumental music education.

After a brief intermission, the Wind Ensemble will take the stage.  The group will perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Toccata Mariziale,” “Elegy for a Young American” by Ronald Lo Presti, “Variations on ‘America’ for Band” by Charles Ives, “Silver Lining” by Frank Ticheli, and “Asphalt Cocktail” by John Mackey.

Dr. Timothy Oliver, director of bands at A-State, is director of the Wind Ensemble.

The Wind Ensemble will be joined Dr. Tara Schwab, assistant professor of flute, who is a new faculty member this year.

“Dr. Schwab will be performing a new work commissioned in part by the A-State Wind Ensemble called ‘Silver Lining’ by Frank Ticheli,” said Dr. Oliver. “It is a three-movement work with extreme technical demand including a large number of extended and contemporary playing techniques.”

The ensembles are also directed in part by graduate assistants Jessica Burmingham and Matthew Simpson.

Tickets are $5 for the general public, and students are admitted free with their ID.
