Two men pegged with separate meth charges in Independence County

The Independence County Sheriff’s Department says two men charged in circuit court are repeat offenders of the law.

Charges have been filed against Mark Clifton, 47, and Jimmy Lynn Hooper, Jr., 38.

Hooper was arrested as a result of a traffic stop last Wednesday, Jan. 17, and was found to be in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia to use meth.

Clifton was also arrested last Wednesday, in a separate incident, but also charged with possession of meth and drug paraphernalia to use meth. His arrest came as a result of a parole visit.

Both men have been previously convicted of more than four prior felonies, and each is being charged as a habitual offender where, if convicted, the sentence will be enhanced.

Hooper’s bond was set at $50,000, and Clifton’s bond at $5,000.  Both are currently in jail.
