Independence County Judge Robert Griffin recently signed a proclamation designating Independence County a “Purple Heart County.”

The designation recognizes and honors the service of those who were wounded or killed by the enemy while serving our nation and protecting our freedoms.

With the proclamation, the judge notes the county’s Veterans Service Office has petitioned the state for Independence County to be designated a “Purple Heart County.”

When the designation becomes official, the county will receive signage for all state highways coming into Independence County informing the public that the county is a “Purple Heart County.”
