Lyon College men’s wrestler Bruce Whitehead has been named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Wrestler of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
This is Whitehead’s first career conference Wrestler of the Week honor.
Whitehead placed fourth in the 174-pound weight class, at the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday for the Scots.
The sophomore from Conroe, Tex. received a bye in the first round, before defeating Missouri S&T’s Austin Schnieders by fall. He would later fall into the consolation bracket, but picked up three straight wins to advance to the third place match. Whitehead defeated William Penn’s Jason Beebe, University of the Cumberlands’s Mike Krzyston and the Patriots’ Max Emerson.
Whitehead would fall in the third place match to Missouri Valley’s Dakota Shockley, placing fourth.
Lyon will next travel to Belleville, Ill. for the AMC Championships on Feb. 17.
