Melbourne woman dies in head-on collision

A Melbourne, Ark., woman was killed Friday afternoon, Feb. 16, in a two-car head-on collision on Hwy. 69 in Izard County.

Arkansas State Police Cpl. Jay Bryan, in his preliminary report, said the victim and driver of an Oldsmobile Aurora, Kathy Pannell, 58, was traveling south on 69 and a Ford Taurus was traveling northbound.  Cpl. Bryan said Pannell’s vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and struck the Taurus head-on.

Bryan said the roadway was dry and the weather clear at the time of the accident.

Cpl. Bryan did not list the driver of the Ford Taurus in his preliminary report to the public and whether or not that driver was injured.  He also did not specify whether or not there were any passengers in either car.
