Jonesboro man charged in Stone County Circuit Court with theft by receiving

siren-1-3

A Jonesboro man has been charged in Stone County Circuit Court with theft by receiving.

The charge against Richard L. Stevens, 58, involves him being in possession of a 1982 Ford F-150 truck that was stolen from Mountain View on April 23 of last year.

Jonesboro Police Officer Zachary Mcquay was checking the tag on the vehicle and saw where it was reported stolen, according to court information.  Officer Mcquay made contact with Stevens, who told the officer that the truck was brought to his address by a nephew who said the transmission had gone out, and he needed a car to get home.

Stevens took the truck as a trade-in on a Ford Mustang car and said his nephew left in the Mustang, and he hasn’t seen him since, court records say.

Theft by receiving is committed if the person in possession of the property knew the property was stolen or had good reason to believe the property was stolen.

The bench warrant for Stevens’ arrest said his bond was set at $10,000.
