The Lyon College Gospel Choir has been invited to participate in the week-long Passion of Italy Festival in Rome for the summer of 2018. The approximate cost of the trip for the 14 choir members is around $44,700, $20,000 of which has already been raised. The $44,700 amount includes flights, hotels, transportation, meals, concert costs, and tour administration.

The total amount will grant the gospel choir the opportunity to spread the gospel through singing and the spoken word and spread the Christian faith, according to an online crowdfunding page for the trip. However, the choir is asking for $10,000 which will ensure at least three Lyon College Gospel Choir students can attend.

The Lyon College Gospel Choir is a vocal ensemble open to students and community members regardless of their faith. The ensemble performs a variety of song forms drawn from the African American religious tradition, including traditional and contemporary gospel, anthems, and spirituals. Under the direction of Markeita Williams and The Anointed Ones, the choir is devoted to using its art not only to entertain, but also to worship, notes the crowdfunding page.

The trip will also give underprivileged students the opportunity to travel abroad. This experience will allow them not only to grow as human beings, but also to experience service through helping others and share their experiences abroad with the Lyon College campus, churches, and their communities, according to the page.
