A shooting last night near Desha in Independence County has left one man in the hospital and another in jail. The shooting occurred at a Boyd Street residence which is located in the subdivision behind the Desha Flash Market.
Sheriff Shawn Stephens said this morning that two men were involved in an argument which resulted in the shooting of a 34-year-old male victim. The sheriff said the man was shot in the arm with the .22 cal bullet apparently passing through and into the abdomen of the victim. He was taken to the White River Medical Center to receive treatment for his injuries. The sheriff said he did not believe the injuries were life-threatening.
Stephens said the investigation is ongoing, but it appears the argument was over some property that had been stolen from a car lot.
The sheriff said the 47-year-old male suspect is now in custody. The information from the department’s investigation will be given to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review and determination on charges being filed.
