Among the items on the agenda for the Independence County Quorum Court meeting Monday night is an ordinance concerning the Batesville-Independence County Industrial Development Corporation which established the Independence County Industrial Park.

The ordinance will add the Mayor of Batesville, the Independence County Judge, and the executive director of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce as ex-officio members of the Board of Directors.

The JPs will also be asked to support Resolution 20l8-06 which designates people to fill the office of Independence County Sheriff in a line of succession, during times of emergency.  In case of the death or disability of Sheriff Shawn Stephens, his wife, Melissa would be first in line of succession; his father Lowell Stephens, second in line; and third would be officer Aaron Moody.

A while back, by executive order, a line of succession for the office of Independence County Judge has the judge’s administrative assistant first in line, next would be the County Road supervisor and third in line of succession to the county judge would be the County Road office manager.
