Longtime Chancery Judge Carl McSpadden passes

A long-time Arkansas Chancery Judge, who served 17 years in the 18th and 16th Judicial Districts, passed away last week in a Little Rock hospital.   

Carl Brook McSpadden was 77 years old.

He was born in Cotter and grew up in Batesville, graduating from Batesville High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1964. McSpadden served three years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force as Legal Officer. Back in Arkansas, he served as deputy prosecuting attorney in Cleburne and Van Buren Counties before being elected chancery judge where he served three terms from 1975 until 1992.

Visitation will be between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Heber Springs.

Memorials may be made to the Cleburne County Aging Program.
