A Stone County man has been charged in Stone County Circuit Court with aggravated assault of his stepfather and doing it in the presence of a child.

The incident occurred Wednesday, May 23, when Vick Horton was allegedly attacked by 37-year-old Jeremiah F. Knott, Horton’s step-son. The court information says while members of the Horton family were away from home, Knott kicked in the back door to gain entrance.

When the Hortons returned home, Vick Horton was taking pictures of the damage when Knott came out of a bedroom, took the cell phone away from Horton, threw him on the ground, got him in a headlock, and began choking him, according to court info.

Horton tried to stop the attack by getting away and moving into another room. The court documents said Knott followed and again chocked Horton. Horton managed to get outside where Knott attacked and choked him again. Horton finally managed to get away, get in his vehicle, and drove to a neighbor’s house where he called 911.

Jeremiah Knott had left the area when deputies arrived and was unable to be located.

Knott is charged with aggravated assault on a household member — a felony; enhancement and assault on a household member committed in the presence of a child — also a felony.  Knott is also being charged as a habitual offender, having previously been convicted of five previous felonies. His bond has been set at $25,000.
