Three men, ages 19 to their mid-20s, came into Independence County last night breaking into buildings, stealing a vehicle, and before eventually being caught south of Batesville, according to Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens.

Stephens said one of the three even threw a wrench into the driver’s side window glass of a passing vehicle at the Magness end of Gap Road.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but an Arkansas State Police trooper spotted the trio’s vehicle and gave chase, which went through Batesville and to the top of Ramsey Mountain where the culprits abandoned the vehicle at a used car dealership.

The three then stole another vehicle in the Dixie Street area.  The Independence County Sheriff’s Department, the Arkansas State Police, and Batesville Police Department officers eventually caught and took all three into custody. One offender was captured at the Exxon, atop Ramsey Mountain, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Stephens said it will take a while to write a report on the chase and eventual capture. He said the information should be available by Wednesday.
