The 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, Holly Meyer, has charged two men with first-degree murder in the death of a Sulphur Rock man.
The prosecuting attorney has also charged the two with criminal possession of body armor in the shooting death of 33-year-old Michael Bryant.
Court information says on Wednesday, June 13, shortly before 9 p.m., the two accused in the murder, 26-year-old Alexander G. Brosius and 33-year-old Jesse R. Shoemaker, drove Shoemaker’s truck to 5830 Harrison St. in Sulphur Rock to Bryant’s residence.
Shoemaker, armed with a .308 caliber rifle, got out of the truck on a stretch of Lonoke Lane so he could sneak to the rear of Bryant’s residence where Brosius, armed with an assault rifle, was to lure Bryant, according to the court documents.
The court record said Brosius, wearing body armor, apparently confronted Bryant in the backyard. During the confrontation, three shots rang out from Shoemaker’s rifle, with one bullet hitting Bryant. Shoemaker then apparently ran from the area, and Brosius drove away in the truck to meet and pick up Shoemaker on Lonoke Lane.
Shoemaker and Brosius then traveled to the area of Wildwood and Waldrip Road to ditch the truck and the firearms, according to court information.
Shoemaker and Brosius were later taken into custody.
After an interview with detectives at the Independence County Jail, Brosius led officers to the area where he and Shoemaker had “ditched” the rifles and body armor.
Both Shoemaker and Brosius are being held in the Independence County jail without bond. Murder in the first-degree is a Class Y felony and is punishable by imprisonment for not less than 10 years nor more than 40 years, or life, and a fine not exceeding $25,000 or a combination of both.
No information was given in the court record to indicate what occurred that led to the confrontation and shooting.
