A member of the Batesville City Council has tendered his resignation.
In a letter to the city, Chris Beller said he has moved out of the City Ward 3 — which he represents — to his family farm to fulfill a dream to improve that land and begin his foray into cattle and hay farming.
Beller said he also resigns from the city Parks and Recreation Commission and the A & P Commission as well, and he said he’s proud of the work the council along wtih the Parks and Recreation and A & P Commissions.
He added that he loved serving his community, and he wishes to do everything he can to help it survive, grow and thrive.
As he leaves city government, Beller said the only advice he offers is “that the city continues the good works, and continue to move forward, because if not moving forward, we will surely move backward.”

Mayor, Aldermen, Parks Chairman, and A&P Chairwoman
It is with some solace and some joy that I must tender my resignation to the Batesville City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the A&P Commission. Solace, because I love serving my community and wish to do everything I can to help it survive, grow, and thrive. Joy, because I have moved to my family farm and fulfilling a dream to improve that land and begin my foray into cattle and hay farming. (What am I thinking!). It is a move that my wife and I have contemplated for several months and has quickly, in the last month, become a reality. Due to this move, I will no longer reside in Ward 3 that I was elected to represent on the City Council and the appointment to the Parks and A&P Commission and must tender this resignation effective immediately.
I’m not hesitant to be involved in building our community but will no longer be able to serve in these capacities. I’m proud of the work the City of Batesville and the Batesville Parks and Recreation, and A&P Commission has done during my tenure. I truly hope that I have been a help, and not a hindrance to progress. I believe our community is stronger now than it has ever been and I know that the Council will continue its good works. I’m very proud of all the Council members and our Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and all of the employees of the City of Batesville. It’s because of the caring attitude of each of you that our City has achieved success. My only advice is to continue the good works and continue to move forward, because if not moving forward, we will surely move backward.
