Independence County to purchase new voting machines

news-background-1-1

At their Monday meeting, the Independence County Quorum Court approved the purchase of new voting machines to be used in the November election.

The county’s Election Commission is ordering 55 voting machines, which will be paid for with a $70,000 bank loan and unappropriated funds. They are expected to arrive in time for use in the November election.

The machines are being purchased for $69,500. Another $5,000 was appropriated to pay for debt service on the loan.

The machines the county has been using are 16 years old and have shown several failures in accuracy tests. The lifespan of these machines is 10 years.
