newsbackground-1-33

A Newark-area man was arrested after he fled from authorities on what turned out to be a stolen motorcycle.

The court information said Wednesday night, July 25, Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens was in the area of Welcome Lane and Forrest Lane when he noticed a blue motorcycle sitting off the side of the roadway in the dark.

The sheriff had earlier received information of a stolen motorcycle matching the description of the one he discovered. The sheriff said he shined his spotlight on the motorcycle and noticed a man sitting on it. The man, later identified as 28-year-old Joshua Andrew Foster, started the bike and began to maneuver through a ditch line to leave. Sheriff Stephens said Foster lost control as he was coming back onto the roadway and wrecked. The sheriff said he, Chief Deputy Aaron Moody and Det. Michael Moody tried to stop him, but Foster ran into a wooded area.

Officers began a search and about an hour later, Foster was apprehended as he was exiting the wooded area.

Foster was taken to jail where marijuana was found on him.

The court record said Foster was processed through the Arkansas Crime Information Center where it was found that Foster’s driver’s license was suspended, and he had at least seven prior fleeing incidents on his record. The record also revealed that he had been previously convicted of four or more felonies. The motorcycle, which was displaying a fictitious license plate, was also found to have been stolen out of San Diego, Cal.

Foster has been charged with six felonies and five misdemeanor violations. Among the felonies are two counts of possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree battery. Among the misdemeanors are fleeing by vehicle and fleeing on foot. Foster is in jail on a $50,000 bond.

He will be tried under the Habitual Offender Act.
