The Melba Theater in Batesville will be hosting a red carpet celebration to mark its second year of being open since the renovation completion. The 2018 Anniversary Celebration will be held Aug. 10 through 12 and will feature the 1942 classic film, Casablanca.
“Casablanca is one of the greatest movies of all time and it seemed fitting to show this as the feature during our anniversary weekend,” added Adam Curtwright, Melba Theater co-owner. “We’re excited to show this film on the silver screen once again and introduce it to a new generation.”
On Friday, Aug. 10 and Saturday, Aug. 11, there will be pre-show entertainment provided by the Lyon College Jazz Band, light Moroccan/American fare served in the auditorium, giveaways, and more. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire from the movies’ era. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., entertainment will begin at 6 p.m., and the movie will start at 7 p.m. Tickets to the Aug. 10 and 11 events are $20 each or $35 per couple. Seating is general admission.
On Sunday, Aug. 12 the movie Casablanca will begin at 2 p.m. with the regular admission price of $4 per person.
In 2016, the historic Melba Theater reopened after an extensive renovation. Two local couples, Adam and Mandi Curtwright and Joe and Janelle Shell, purchased the theater in 2014 and restored the theater as close as possible to the original architecture.
“The ticket sales this year will also ensure stability and preservation of the historic Melba Theater,” stated Joe Shell, Melba Theater co-owner. “With an old building there is always something to work on and we want to keep our historic structure in great condition for years to come.”
Tickets are available for purchase at the Melba Theater ticket box or online at melbatheater.org.
The Melba Theater is located at 115 W. Main St. in Batesville in the historic downtown district.
