An Independence County man has entered into a negotiated plea of guilty to five counts of sexual assault in the second degree and two counts of rape, all involving children under the age of 16.

The court information says one of the rape counts and four sexual assault counts occurred in the summer of 2014.  The other rape charge occurred in the spring of 2015, and one count of sexual assault occurred that summer. The other sexual assault charge came from an incident in September of 2017.

Prosecuting Attorney Holly Meyer said 58-year-old John F. Schwake plead guilty to those seven counts for a total of 100 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.  She said the defendant has prior sexual offenses and is a habitual offender. Meyer said there were many victims in his years of child molestation. Schwake was given credit for 316 days spent in jail awaiting trial.

The court record said Schwake could have received up to 160 years in prison and a fine up to $80,000.
