On Monday morning, Aug. 20, over 200 students making up the Lyon College class of 2022 signed the roll of honor, officially enrolling in the college. New faculty and staff also joined the students in signing.
After processing into Brown Chapel for the matriculation ceremony, students were welcomed by members of the Lyon community, including Taylor Donnerson, ‘19, president of the Student Government Association and Lyon College President Dr. W. Joseph King.
“I would like to say not only welcome to Lyon College but also welcome home,” said Donnerson. “You being here is a commitment that will foster a future of satisfaction.”
By signing the roll of honor, students, faculty, and staff commit themselves to uphold Lyon’s Honor Code.
“This is a code wholly embodied by the students,” explained King. Following King, provost Dr. Melissa Taverner introduced the signing.
“We expect from all our students, faculty, and staff a commitment to honesty and integrity in everything you do,” Taverner said. “It is incumbent upon you to be responsible for your own performance, to rely on your own abilities, to address and to overcome your own limitations, and you have the right to expect the same from everyone else in this community.”
Following her introduction, Taverner; Lai-Monte Hunter, director of diversity and associate dean of students; new staff; and faculty signed the roll of honor. Dr. Patrick Mulick, vice president for student life and dean of students then called new students forward to sign.
“This is a moment in time where you can commit yourself to living a life of integrity,” said Mulick. “It’s a fresh beginning.”
