Curb project to impact one lane of St. Louis Street in Batesville

Reconstruction of curbing along North St. Louis Street at its intersection with Lyon Street in Batesville will require the temporary closure of one lane of northbound traffic on St. Louis Street beginning Wednesday, Sept. 12. The periodic lane closure may extend to about Nov. 1.

The project will improve travel safety by widening the corner to allow northbound vehicles more room to turn right from St. Louis Street onto Lyon Street at the site of the new Citizens Bank headquarters building. Work hours during the reconstruction will be limited to 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each workday to prevent interference with rush hour traffic and school bus schedules.

The project is being coordinated by Clark Contractors of Little Rock with local subcontractors, in consultation with the Arkansas State Highway Department and the City of Batesville, according to Mike Mills, project superintendent for Clark Contractors.

“Safety for motorists and pedestrians in this area is at the top of our minds as we move toward completion of the construction of our new financial service center,” said Phil Baldwin, chief executive officer of Citizens Bank. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the citizens of Batesville who live, work and drive in this area.”
