A Batesville man has been charged in connection with a shooting early Saturday morning in Independence County.
Deputies of the Independence County Sherriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence in the Sulphur Rock area on Wilson Street and found Kevin Wallace suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. According to the report, Wallace was involved in an altercation with 27-year-old Batesville resident David Allen Basinger.
With help from the Batesville Police Department, a search was conducted of a residence on West Ross Street where authorities found Basinger along with more firearms and ammunition. Basinger was taken into custody and upon further investigation was found to have been convicted of four other felonies from the state of California.
Basinger has been charged in Independence County Circuit court with battery in the first degree and possession of firearms by certain persons, both Class B felonies.
According to court documents the Independence County Sherriff’s Department is asking that Basinger be charged as a habitual offender.
