Cedar Ridge drops high school football for remainder of year

cedar-ridge-4

Cedar Ridge Public Schools in Independence County has dropped Varsity High School Football — at least for the remainder of this school year.

Superintendent Andy Ashley said the school will not be able to field a team for the rest of the year. He said the school started off with 22 players and is now down to 14, which is not enough to continue to play their schedule. Even playing with 22 was difficult, Ashley told White River Now.

Some smaller schools in Independence County such as Cedar Ridge and Midland could look to playing 8-man football. That is something that the Arkansas Activities Association is allowing some school in the state to field and play each other.

Ashley said Cedar Ridge will continue with Junior Varsity Football and has at least one more game, and is looking for more JV games to schedule. He said the junior high school will continue to play their full schedule for 2018.
