Batesville man enters negotiated guilty plea of negligent homicide in case of car accident that resulted in his passenger’s death

A 42-year-old Batesville man has entered into a negotiated plea of guilty on three criminal counts surrounding a September 2015 single-vehicle accident that led to a fatality of a passenger.

Sammy Dortch Jr. entered into a plea of guilty to negligent homicide, driving under the influence and reckless driving, according to documents filed Monday in Independence County Circuit Court.

Dortch was sentenced by Judge Tim Weaver to a one year suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay fines and court costs of $2,670.
