A Batesville man is accused in Independence County Circuit Court with breaking into his neighbor’s storage building and also causing hundreds of dollars damage to the neighbor’s boat cover.

Authorities say in the court documents that 48-year-old Gerald Eugene Pennington is being charged in the incident which occurred on Oct. 23. That’s when John McShane’s storage building was forcefully broken into with some property damaged, including $700 in damage to a boat cover. Authorities say it appears the damage was done by stabbing holes in the cover. Police say Pennington was seen leaving the building in his vehicle and was picked up by police a short time later.

Police say they have had prior incidents with Pennington who has, police allege, made threats against law enforcement in the past.

Pennington is now in jail, and Judge Chaney Taylor has placed him under a $75,000 bond.
