The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is reporting a parolee from Batesville has been sentenced to a long term in state prison for killing a Sherwood resident, originally from Mountain View.

Antonio Dewayne Briggs, 37, was given a 35-year, no parole prison sentence for the July 2017 killing of 37-year-old Sherwood resident William David Kendrick.

Kendrick was found by his roommate, Philip Ross, two days after he was stabbed to death. Kendrick’s safe had been pried open and his cell phone was gone. According to police, Briggs left behind a series of bloody footprints.

Briggs was arrested five months after the stabbing death by Sherwood Police. They had DNA evidence that linked Briggs to the murder.

At the time of his arrest for the stabbing, Briggs was in jail. He had been caught for breaking into an apartment in North Little Rock and stealing over $300 in cash from a woman’s wallet.

The stabbing victim, William David Kendrick, was formerly from Mountain View. A memorial service was held in Mountain View for Kendrick in July of last year (2017).

The sentence of Briggs will keep him behind bars until he is 71 years old.
