The Independence County Quorum Court will receive a good report on sales tax collections reported in October of this year.

The county budget committee through the county treasurer’s office projected $245,000 would be collected.

The actual amount based on sales in August, sent to the state in September, and reported in October was: $277,718.

That’s an increase of 11.21 percent over August of 2017.

It also helps the year-to-date figures, which show an increase of four percent over last year.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and the county fire departments received $131,806.

Year-to-date, each fire department in Independence County — including the Batesville Fire Department — has received $116,679.58.

The report will also show the only fund in the red is County General fund. It is currently (through Oct. 31) at $514,111 in the red.

The County Road fund is $535,913 in the good. Solid Waste is $671,067 in the black and Juvenile Detention is $19,072 to the good.

At one time, in 2014, the latter fund was $1,069,932 to the good. Money has been used out of the fund for various reasons, including balancing the yearly budget.
