The Batesville High School (BHS) Swim Team attended its first meet of the season Friday, Nov. 9 in Russellville, Ark.
The Cyclone Invitational Swim Meet drew 290 swimmers and divers from across the state. The eleven-member Batesville team posted many personal best times and some very fast first-place finishes. Joseph Wells placed first in the 50 free with a time of 22.63 seconds. Nathan Hernandez continued the winning streak, placing first in the 500 free. The boys finished the evening with a third place in the 200-freestyle relay (relay team: Nathan Hernandez, Anthony Sonnier, Jack Allen, Joseph Wells). The girls’ team lacked enough swimmers to make a relay team but contributed strong swims and achieved personal best times in the 100 fly and 500 free (Katie Cruse) and the 100 breast and 200 free (Kate Moody).
Teammates cheered loudly for each other throughout the meet. “Cheering on people at swim meets is always fun,” said Allen.
The BHS swim team, led by Coach Alfredo Aleman head to Arkadelphia on Dec. 1 and then have a home meet in Batesville on Dec. 8.
