A member of the public who was traveling behind an erratic driver Saturday, Nov. 24, on Highway 5 South near Mountain View, informed the Stone County Sheriff’s Office of the danger. The Ford Explorer had left the highway about seven miles south of town, causing some property damage, but the vehicle kept going.

Officer Cody Lee found and pulled over the vehicle. After some extended interaction with the driver, 24-year-old Joseph Michael Edward Verdusco, Lee found him to be impaired. The officer also found methamphetamine hidden in Verdusco’s pants. Digital scales were also found in the vehicle.

Verdusco was taken into custody and charged with: possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Since Verdusco had previously been convicted of more than one but less than four felonies, he is being charged as a habitual offender.

Verdusco’s bond was set at $10,000.
