A Stone County man and woman who fled from authorities have been charged with multiple felonies in Stone County Circuit Court.

On Nov. 29, a deputy with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a dark-colored truck on a traffic violation on Highway 5, south of Mountain View, when the pair sped away from authorities, according to court documents.

The chase ended on Bob Davis Mountain Road after the truck slid off the roadway into a ditch. Officers moved in with their vehicles and blocked the truck from being able to leave the area, records report.

The driver, Austin Richard Kirby, 21, and two female passengers were inside the vehicle. One of the officers arriving on the scene was Cody Lee of the Mountain View Police Department and his K-9, Storm. While walking around the truck, Storm alerted Lee to a purse belonging to one of the passengers, LeShay Ann Haynes, 26. Inside the purse, officers found nine syringes, a small plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance that Haynes admitted to being methamphetamine, two bags of marijuana and a glass smoking device, according to court documents.

Haynes admitted to authorities that all drugs and paraphernalia belonged to her.

Kirby, however, would not comply with orders from police and had to be physically put in a squad car to be taken to jail, according to court records.

Haynes was also arrested and taken into custody. Court records indicate she was charged with 10 drug-related felony counts and two misdemeanors.

Kirby was charged with aggravated assault for trying to hit police cars and officers with his vehicle, felony fleeing, resisting arrest and reckless driving.

Both Kirby and Haynes had outstanding warrants for their arrest, according to authorities. Kirby is being held on a $15,000 bond and Haynes on a $10,000 bond.  Prosecutors are asking for Kirby to be tried under the Habitual Offender law.
