An Independence County man was caught Dec. 3 inside a Newark residence by the occupant and held until a deputy arrived to take him to jail.

Independence County Circuit Court records said the homeowner, Kenneth Eubanks, was asleep in his home when he was awakened by a man prowling around. The prowler, later identified as William Ty Anderson Hunter, 26, had Eubanks’ daughter’s wallet in his hand. Eubanks said he held the man while he put a pair of handcuffs on him until Deputy Bobby Lockard arrived. Eubanks said he found a bent card, similar to a bank card in Hunter’s pocket. He asked Hunter if he used the card to gain entry into the locked door and he admitted to using the card to get into the house, according to Eubanks.

Lockard said when he took Hunter into custody, he noticed Hunter holding a school ID card that had apparently been in Eubanks’ daughter’s wallet.  He took Hunter to jail where he was held on a felony residential burglary charge. Hunter was later charged with misdemeanor theft in the court filing and placed on a $15,000 bond.
