news-background-1-1-9

Taking contraband or a prohibited article into the Independence County Jail has resulted in a Batesville man being charged.

Court records say Richard Allen Wiltrout, 44, was being put in jail from probation and parole, and during a strip search, inside his pants pocket was a plastic baggie containing a green, leafy substance which tested positive as marijuana.

Michael Moody with the Independence County Sheriff’s Department is also asking Wiltrout be tried as a habitual offender, having been convicted of 11 previous felony charges.

Wiltrout is charged with furnishing a prohibited article into a jail facility (a felony) and possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana (a misdemeanor).

Wiltrout’s bond has been set at $5,000 cash.
