The Independence County Sheriff’s Department has taken a man into custody who is accused of internet stalking of a child, according to Sheriff Shawn Stephens.

The sheriff told White River Now the department was notified by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office regarding David Allen Duncan, 40, of Runway Road in Batesville trying to solicit sex from an underaged child on social media. Dallas County lies southeast of Arkadelphia.

Stephens said he joined Investigator Mike Price and Deputy Adam McGilton in responding to Duncan’s residence and taking him into custody. Duncan was taken to the Independence County Detention Center where he could be interviewed.

After the interview, the sheriff said there was enough information to place Duncan in jail and forward that information to the prosecuting attorney.

The information is now being processed for circuit court charges to be filed, according to Stephens.

UPDATE 12/28/28:

A man arrested in Independence County on Dec. 27 has been charged in Independence County Circuit Court with felony internet stalking of a child.

The affidavit of probable cause for arrest says David Allen Duncan, 40, of Runway Road in Independence County contacted a female on Dec. 26 via the dating cell phone application, SKOUT.

In an interview with Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, Duncan said that he (Duncan) did initiate contact with a female profile and her age was listed as 18 years old, according to court info.

The court record also states Duncan then admitted, even after the female provided in a written message that she was 15 years old, that he continued to solicit sex and sent sexually explicit messages and attempted to arrange a meeting for the purpose of sexual intercourse.

The Independence County Sheriff’s Department said that they had followed up on information they had received from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department concerning Duncan’s activities on the dating cell phone application.

Duncan is currently in the Independence County jail under a $100,000 bond.
