Mountain View council tables liquor license request in order for public input

beer-1

In its meeting earlier this week, Mountain View Mayor Roger Gardner reports the Mountain View City Council tabled a request from a restaurant to support its effort to obtain a liquor license.

Gardner told White River Now the council wants city residents to let them know if they want the council to support or not support the license request.

The restaurant, Mi Pueblito, located on the square, made the request. The establishment wants to go before the Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) in Little Rock with local government approval. The ABC makes the decision on liquor licenses in the state.

Gardner said late last year the city sent a letter to the ABC informing the commission that the council was on record opposing the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city limits.

Gardner said when Angler’s Restaurant, located in the county, went before the ABC for a license request. He said there was quite a bit of local opposition, but the ABC gave approval anyway.

The mayor said Anglers and Mi Pueblito are both very good restaurants and assets to the community, but it is a question of wet or dry, and the people should have a say.
