Two men have been arrested and charged in Independence County Circuit Court with burglary and theft of property from a residence on Old Camp Road, just east of Batesville.

The Affidavit of Probable Cause for Arrest said approximately $3,000 in U.S. currency ($100 bills), $3,000 in assorted smaller U.S. currency in five-gallon buckets or bottles, a Moultrie game camera, and a Savage Axis bolt-action rifle were taken from the residence.

The court information said a game camera, set up near the driveway, contained pictures of the suspect vehicle and driver — during and after the burglary.

After a follow-up investigation by Sheriff Shawn Stephens and his department’s criminal investigation department, two men were taken into custody: Stephen K. Winkle, 28, and Daniel Carlton Ledlow, 33. Search warrants were executed during the investigation, and several of the stolen items were found at the residences of the two, according to the court info.

Both men were charged with two felonies each: residential burglary and theft of property. Both were placed on $25,000 bond each. Winkle has bonded out of jail, and Ledlow is in jail in Jackson County on another case.
