Amanda Nikkel, a gifted and talented teacher with the Batesville School District, stopped by this morning to visit with White River Now’s Gary B. about a project her students are undertaking for tomorrow’s History Day celebration at the Old Independence Museum in Batesville.
Patsy Ramsey, National History Day coordinator for Arkansas, held a workshop for the students on Jan. 10. Since then, the students have been researching and working to produce posters based on the National History Day theme, “Triumph and Tragedy.” Many of the students have been able to tie family history into their projects. Judging will take place tomorrow morning with an awards ceremony and reception held that afternoon. School officials, parents, and the general public are invited to attend the ceremony and reception. The posters will remain on display at Old Independence Regional Museum for the remainder of the week.
