Lady Southerners struggle to get bats going against Brookland

The Southside Lady Southerners struggled to get the bats going against the Brookland Lady Bearcats and division 1 signee Ashlyn Matthews on March 11.  The Lady Southerners were defeated 8-1.

It was a scoreless game going into the top of the third inning when Brookland plated 3 runs and added 1 more in the top of the fourth, before the Southerners got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a double by Grace Lawellin and a sacrifice fly by Blakeley Floyd.

Brookland got 2 runs in the fifth and the seventh innings to cap off the scoring. Grace Lawellin had 2 hits for the Lady Southerners and Kirsten king had 1.

Katie Dennison went all 7 innings in the circle, giving up 10 hits and 5 earned runs with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.

The Southerners fall to 3-2-1 on the season, 2-2 in conference play.  The Lady Southerners take Highland this evening at home at 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.
