Lady Southerners smack two home runs in a win over Highland

The Lady Southerners bats heated up as spring break began Monday afternoon as they smacked 2 home runs in the 12-0 mercy rule win over the Highland Lady Rebels in a special 1 p.m. game at Southerner field.
The Lady Southerners had 11 hits on the day, a home run by each Grace Lawellin (the first high school home run for the freshman) and one by Shelby Warden, to lead the attack.
The Lady Southerners were on the board early with 3 in the first, 6 in the third and 3 in the fourth, batting only 4 times in the run shortened contest.
The Southerners were led in hits by Lawellin, Lexi Dale, Blakeley Floyd and Krislyn Duncan with 2 hits each.
Katie Dennison got the win for the Southerners in the circle, going 3 innings, giving up 1 hit, walking 1, striking out 3 and allowing no runs.
Shelby Warden pitched in 2 innings of relief, giving up 2 hits and striking out 1.
The Southerners move to 4-2-1 on the season, 3-2 in conference play.
