A fundraiser will be held Tuesday evening at Colton’s Steakhouse in Batesville to support the purchase of body camera for the Independence County Sheriff’s Department.

Of 30 body cameras needed for Independence County Sheriff’s Department personnel, the department only currently has four — and those are aging.

The Batesville Rotary Club has joined Colton’s to present an event that the public can be a part of and can culminate in providing body cameras for the Independence County Sheriff’s Department personnel. A portion of all dinner proceeds at Colton’s from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. will help match a Rotary grant for the cameras. Rotary District 6150 has agreed to match up to $2,085 towards the licensing and purchase of new body cameras. Donations are also welcome.

Donna Cole, president of the Batesville Rotary Club, and Sheriff Shawn Stephens dropped by Centennial Bank / Arkansas 103.3 KWOZ studios this morning to discuss Tuesday’s event.
