Southerners fall short in a close game against Sylvan Hills


The Southerners dropped a close game in the final game of the Sylvan Hills Invitational to defending 5A state champs Sylvan Hills 5-4.

The Southerners scored 4 runs on 8 hits and had no errors. Freshman Gage Wood had a phenomenal outing pitching 6 innings and giving up 7 hits while striking out 6 Bears and walking no one.

Payton Walls and Will Sitkowski led the Southerners with 2 hits each while Bo Trucks, Cole Langston, Braden Jones and Caden Huskey all had hits of their own.

Will Sitkowski and Cole Langston each had a RBI. Payton Walls, Bo Trucks, Cole Langston and Braden Jones scored the four Southerner runs.

Caden Huskey reached base in all three at bats with a single and two hit by pitches. Landon Haas and Braden Jones each drew two walks.

The Southerners will host Bald Knob this evening at 4:30.
