Woman arrested for possession at local motel after Batesvile Police respond to call

news-siren-11

When officers from the Batesville Police Department were recently called to a local motel, they were expecting a possible domestic dispute.

Instead, it turned out to be something different and ended with drug-related felonies charged against a registered female guest.

The initial report noted occupants of room 121 were being loud, cursing, yelling, and disturbing other registered guests. The court documents said when contact was made with the registered occupant of room 121, officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana present in the room.

The room’s registered occupant, Brianna Perkinson, 51, said it wasn’t marijuana, she was just burning “incense,” telling investigator Dillon Sallas. The noise, she said, was made by three young men who came by, stopped to visit, and were very loud.

When those three were detained, officers were told that Perkinson and a man were outside the room “smoking,” and they asked to join them. The three said the talk got a little loud, according to court info.

During the police department’s investigation, permission was given to search. Sallas noted seven illegal drugs were found in Perkinson’s purse and room. The court information said the illegal drugs included methamphetamine, morphine, hydrocodone, and Alprazolam. The court record said there was also a large amount of currency — $1,673 — in small denominations.

Sallas charged Perkinson in Independence County Circuit Court with possession of five different illegal drugs with the purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Perkinson’s bond was set at $25,000.
