Sex offender found in Independence County charged for failure to register after similar charge in Stone County

A recently-arrested man now housed in the Stone County Detention Center has been charged in Independence County with one of the same felonies that landed him in that jail.

The subject, Michael B. Osburn (pictured), 31, was on supervised probation as a sex offender when he was charged in Stone County with two felonies. One of those was failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements.

Osburn was not in custody in Stone County when he was charged. Independence County authorities saw he was wanted and thought he might be at a residence in Sulphur Rock.

Deputies went there, found Osburn, and placed him in custody for Stone County.

While at the residence, deputies found a handgun in the bedroom used by Osburn.

The Independence County Prosecuting Attorney has now charged Osburn with two felonies: failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements (for Independence County) and possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.

A bond was set at $10,000.

Osburn will first be adjudicated in Stone County before he is taken to Independence County to face charges.
