Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh (left) welcomed Calvin Wright (right), manager of The Home Depot on Harrison Street, to last night’s Mayor’s Community Meeting at The Best Dam Steakhouse. Wright presented the mayor with his personal Home Depot work apron and spoke to the crowd about the efforts the local store makes in community outreach.

Wright talked about the free kids workshop clinic that’s held the first Saturday of each month; the weekly clinics on Saturdays and Sundays for “Do-It-Yourselfers”; and, the yearly fire and safety event held in the store’s parking lot on the first Saturday in October.

The local Home Depot also supports the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches, non-profits, and features in-store discounts for veterans, said Wright. He also highlighted the store’s work with the March of Dimes, the White River Water Carnival, the holiday-themed “Mingle & Jingle,” and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

One highlight of Mayor Elumbaugh’s comments included the announcement that the Lyon College art department will soon be repainting the Coca-Cola mural on the side of the Big’s restaurant building.
