Longtime Batesville community leader passes

woody-castleberry

A longtime Batesville community leader, Woodrow “Woody” Castleberry, passed away on Tuesday, April 16. He was 67.

He is survived by his wife Melissa (Dillahunty) Castleberry; two sons, Casey Castlebrerry (Annette), and Lindsey Castleberry (Deann), both of Batesville; a brother Ken Castleberry (Jamie) of Little Rock; a sister, Nan Cox (Ed) of Niceville, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Becky Castleberry of Hot Springs; two granddaughters; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Woody Castleberry was born in Newport and was an avid sportsman — enjoying fishing, duck hunting, golf, and all Razorback athletics, according to his obituary notice.

He valued “doing things” over “having things,” and the notice shows he applied that mantra by being an active community leader and chairing the boards of the White River Health System, University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB), and the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on countless boards, as well.

In business, Castleberry served as president of Citizens Bank, and then, First Southern Bank, both in Batesville. He completed his career working for White River Health System.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Batesville. A reception immediately follows in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the UACCB Foundation or the White River Health System Foundation.
