“I couldn’t be happier for these guys.” Pioneers win first round of state tournament baseball

It was a satisfying victory for the Batesville Pioneers baseball team Thursday in state tournament play at Southside. For the first time in over a decade, Batesville moved on to second round action with the win over Malvern by a score of 6 to 2.

Batesville head coach Brian Krug said the Pioneers stayed the course in the game to gain the victory.

“We took advantage of their mistakes because it always seemed that other teams are taking advantage of our mistakes, but I was really proud of our guys for just staying the course and grinding, and finally making a team pay for making some mistakes,” Krug told White River Now. “A total group effort. Great job by our starting pitching, Mason Sifford. Great job by Casen Manry coming in and slamming the door. I couldn’t be happier for these guys.”
