The US Census Bureau says the average age in Arkansas’ 75 counties ranges from 32 to 52 years old.
As one would expect, the older-aged counties are those, for the most part, with a number of retirees.
Marion County has the oldest average age at 52.5 years with Baxter County a close second at 52.3 years. Then come Montgomery County at 50.8 years and Stone County at 49.8 years of age.
The youngest counties have college towns. Washington County, where the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is located, is the state’s youngest county with an average age of 31.9 years. The second youngest county is Faulkner where the University of Central Arkansas is located. The average age of its residents is 32.8 years.
