Authorities say the suspect left the scene of the accident — leaving behind a stolen vehicle and some possible important identification.
The stolen vehicle, a 2007 Jeep Compass, was found at the intersection of Blackland Road and Tower Road in the Pleasant Plains area. The vehicle was off in a ditch after it had apparently traveled 300 feet through the ditch line, coming to a rest after it hit a metal culvert.
A search of the vehicle turned up a wallet containing a man’s Social Security card. The same man’s driver’s license was found in the passenger floorboard area.
Deputies from the Independence County Sheriff’s Department could not find the man in the area, but they know who they’re looking for.
Authorities say the stolen vehicle was owned by a Cave City woman. Deputy Jason Cole noted the Compass sustained a lot of damage to the front end. It was towed from the scene.
